Justin Stang Announces Candidacy for Olympia City Council, Position 6

Longtime resident and community advocate brings experience, environmental values, and commitment to responsible governance

Olympia, WA – April 1, 2025— Justin Stang, a 14-year resident of Olympia and a leader in both small business and environmental policy, proudly announces his candidacy for Olympia City Council, Position 6.

Stang’s deep roots in the community—first as a downtown renter, then a homeowner and small business owner—reflect his understanding of Olympia’s diverse neighborhoods and evolving needs. He now owns a rental property in the city and is running to bring practical, community-centered leadership to City Hall.

“I’m running for City Council because I believe Olympia deserves leaders who are fiscally responsible, environmentally forward-thinking, and committed to supporting the small businesses that make our city unique,” said Stang. “My experience working at the YMCA, in the shellfish industry with Hama Hama, and now as a policy analyst for the Pacific Coast Shellfish Growers Association has given me a strong understanding of our region’s economy, environment, and communities.”

Stang’s platform centers on:

Responsible Fiscal Management – Ensuring Olympia’s budget is balanced and taxpayer dollars are used efficiently to deliver core services.

Support for Small Businesses – Cutting red tape, streamlining permitting, and expanding access to resources for local entrepreneurs.

Efficient and Eco-Friendly Growth – Promoting thoughtful land use, sustainable infrastructure, and climate-resilient planning.

In addition to these priorities, Stang is committed to regional collaboration to address Olympia’s housing shortage and support unhoused neighbors with compassion, innovation, and long-term solutions.

“My goal is to help Olympia grow in a way that protects what makes it special—our natural surroundings, our small business community, and our sense of shared responsibility,” Stang said.

Justin Stang is ready to listen, lead, and work with residents across Olympia to build a future that is sustainable, inclusive, and grounded in common sense.
